i disagree with margaret a little bit. i don't think the obama administration has been shy about using things like drones to, you know, take out american enemies and members of al qaeda. and, you know, i would disagree with you a little bit piers on the domestic front being a focus in his second term. usually the way the second terms play out is you only have about 10 to 12 months in the first year to hit the ground really fast and pass your domestic agenda. once that is up, a lot of presidents in their second term start to turn towards foreign policy. and he's got a long list of foreign policy challenges in the second term. iranian nukes, how to deal with china. you know, a big sort of macro agenda in the obama administration has been to reduce our footprint in the middle east, become less entangled in that part of world and pivot towards engaging with east asia. and there's been a lot of work in the first term that has strengthened ties between the u.s. and many east asia countries. and obama officials talk about that as a big project of the second term. >> well, that is the pe

where it can backfire hillary clinton in the first clinton administration. >> a crucial role michelle obama played giving that speech which was very well received. >> she helps to humanize him and provide that behind had scenes look at who he is and what he's trying to accomplish. she can relate to people on a level of shared experiences. she's a working woman. she understands raising kids and juggling work and family. and when people can hear from her in that sort of long form format and really have that conversation with her, it really electroifies the room and i think that's what helped changed the dialogue in 2008. >> in that speech that she gave at the convention, i think people forgot, you know, democrats were really a little bit down. she got out there and when she spoke, that wasn't just one of the best speeches of a first lady, that was one of the best speeches in american politics in the past four years. extraordinary speech because it was so human. >> as we continue to count down to the president's official swearing in, which will be taking place, the official inauguration.

morning. it is official. president obama's second term is underway. he took the oath of office in a short ceremony moments ago at the white house. the oath was administratorred by chief justice john roberts. this is the third time that the president and john roberts have gotten together to do the oath of office. you might recall that four years ago during president obama's inauguration. chief justice flubbed the words of the inauguration so out of an abundance of caution the two men got together to resay it. that was the private ceremony with just the president's family there. there will be a public swearing in tomorrow on the national mall where they are expecting a crowd that will be smaller that they had four years ago where nearly 2 million people showed up. they are expecting maybe 800,000 people to be out here. there will being the traditional parade and two inaugural balls. security is extremely tight with 13,000 military and law enforcement people who will be in the crowd. but it will be scaled back but it will still be majestic with all the pomp we are used to seeing in an inaugu
